On June 29, 2009 FHP’s Troop E and Jackson Memorial Hospital hosted a press event to alert South Florida residents of the primary enforcement of Florida’s seat belt laws that starts June 30. Every major law enforcement agency in Miami-Dade County was represented in a show of unity.
All media outlets in Miami attended the event reaching millions of South Florida residents reminding them at 12:01AM, Tuesday, June 30, 2009, Florida’s Seat Belt Law changed from a “Secondary Offence” to a “Primary Offense”. This means that any Trooper or Police Officer will have the authority to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle if the driver or passengers in that vehicle are in violation of Florida’s seat belt laws.
