Lieutenant Bill Leeper started it off at 9:00 AM with a 30-minute radio show at WOKV in Jacksonville. He spoke with radio host Roxy Tyler about traffic safety issues and reminded motorists to drive safely during the upcoming holiday period. Next up was Trooper Dawn Tomlinson, who conducted a child seat checkpoint from 10:00 AM - Noon at the Ron Anderson Chevrolet dealership in Nassau County. Trooper Tomlinson, while checking child seats also took advantage of the opportunity to pass out valuable safety information pamphlets and brochures to the parents. The dealership was introducing the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro and invited FHP to kick-off the daylong event.

Finally at 5:30 PM, Trooper Tomlinson and FHP Auxiliary troopers set up the Rollover Simulator and a static patrol car display at the front gate of the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville for the Jacksonville Suns (Double-A affiliate of the Florida marlins) baseball game. Jacksonville Motor Squad Troopers Bill Godfrey and Roger Thomas and Jacksonville Sheriff’s Officers handed out future game tickets to those who were wearing their seat belt as they drove into the parking lot. The tickets were compliments of FDOT’s Click-It-or-Ticket personnel, who were giving out free t-shirts and safety information prior to the game. They also set up an information booth inside the stadium to remind everyone to “Buckle Up.”

Representing Click-It-or-Ticket Florida, Lieutenant Bill Leeper ended the day at 6:55 PM by throwing out the first pitch of the game between the Jacksonville Suns and Birmingham Biscuits. Jacksonville won the game 4-3 with a walk-off home run in the 9th inning by the catcher who caught Leeper’s first pitch!

The theme of the day was Safety! Everybody, including the Birmingham Biscuits, went home winners.
