Plant City, Florida – FHP and Auxiliary members joined together on Sunday, March 1, 2009, at Lupton’s Boggy Bottom Ranch for a special day of safety activities and education to support the Children’s Angels, Hillsborough County’s Foster Care Program. Lupton’s BBQ of Temple Terrace sponsored the event, orchestrating a full day of fun, food, and learning for Tampa area foster children.
Auxiliary Sergeant Jack Lawrence worked tirelessly to coordinate the event as he has done over the past several years. He, along with FHPA Major Jerry Swartz and others raised money to purchase wagons, scooters, jeeps, and tricycles to be raffled off to the children along with bicycles supplied by the Children’s Angels program. Trooper Reggie Edwards operated one of FHP’s popular Rollover Simulators to show children why it’s so important to buckle up in the car—and what happens when you don’t. FHP and members of the Tampa Rough Riders passed out necklaces, teddy bears, safety coloring books, and other goodies to make the kids of all ages feel special for a day. A. Thomas Pony Rides and Livestock of Land O’ Lakes brought several farm animals for the children to see up close and offered horse and miniature pony rides. Members from several area agencies and private companies came together for a single purpose—to show they care about these special foster kids, and to teach them that safety can be fun!
