On December 6, the Florida Highway Patrol participated in a car show sponsored by Gainesville Ford/Mitsubishi to support the Children’s Home Society. Over 50 cars owners registered and made donations to the charity despite the uncooperative morning weather. Many local groups helped to ensure the success of the show, including the Muscle Car Club of Gainesville, which took care of the registration process, the sale of raffle tickets, and the collection of toys for the children. Troop B’s Auxiliary Captain Beaver Twist demonstrated one of FHP’s popular rollover simulators, showing children and parents what can happen if a person is not buckled in. Twist shared our agency’s safety messages as he talked to the event attendees. Overall, a lot of money was raised to benefit the Children’s Home Society and the spirit of safety was evident throughout the day.
