Trooper Grider and K-9 partner

On December 4th, FHP and several other agencies pursued four suspects who committed an armed robbery on a jewelry store in Lee County. It began when Trooper Mike Grider spotted the suspects’ vehicle on I-75 and began pursuing them. As the suspects entered Charlotte County, he was able to drive around a set of stop sticks and continue north with his headlights off. Thankfully, a second set of stop sticks were deployed in Sarasota County with positive results. The suspect moved onto the shoulder of the road and approached a wooded area. As Trooper Grider attempted to place his patrol unit in a safe position for the arrest, a small collision took place. The suspects then collided with a tree resulting in a vehicle fire. Trooper Grider was able to place one of the suspects into custody as the others fled on foot. Sheriff’s deputies were able to take the remaining three suspects into custody with no further incidence. Good job, Trooper Grider!
