retires after 40 years of service.

Florida Highway Patrol Maj. Marlin Crider retired from the Auxiliary after a distinguished 40-year, volunteer career. Marlin joined the FHPA April 4, 1969, and held various offices during his career, including several years as unit commander for the Jacksonville unit. He served as treasurer for Troop G, which covers northeast Florida, for more than 38 years and has been recognized for his service with numerous awards to include, FHP Auxiliary 1998 Trooper of the Year.

Major Crider was born on Dec. 7, 1920, in Illinois. At the age of 19, he joined the United States Navy. Chief Petty Officer Crider received numerous awards and medals during his 21-year naval career, including the Distinguished Flying Cross and two air medals.

Marlin began a second career with the Federal Aviation Administration in 1960 and retired again in 1976. In addition, Crider volunteers his time and effort with his church, Meals on Wheels and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. His dedication and service to the Jacksonville community, the citizens of the state of Florida and the Florida Highway Patrol Auxiliary are truly remarkable. All of the FHP members who have had the privilege of knowing and working with him say a great big thank you for a job well done!
