Troopers answer questions for students.

FHP troopers recently attended the annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Day for Leon County Law Enforcement Agencies held at Lawton Chiles High School in Tallahassee. Corporal Donnie Pitts got students to wear Fatal Vision goggles, special eyewear that simulates visual drunkenness (so wearers can see what someone under the influence sees) in an effort to help educate the students about the dangers of DUI. He also demonstrated his special DUI detection equipment, called an Intoxilyzer 8000, which he keeps in his patrol car. Trooper Ed Creel used one of FHP’s rollover simulators to show the students what happens in a rollover crash and the serious consequences of not buckling up in vehicles. Sergeant Roufa brought the FHP Recruitment van and was available to answer questions concerning careers in law enforcement and with the Patrol. Overall, FHP members offered safety advice and demonstrations that will, hopefully, make a difference.
