The 111th Basic Recruit Class (BRC) is making history again! First, members of the 111th BRC made history by being the first class to graduate from the new FHP Training Academy at the Pat Thomas Law Enforcement Academy in Havana. Now, the class recently returned to the Academy and completed a special two-week Traffic Homicide Investigation (THI) course, which was originally designed exclusively for corporals. The 111th BRC is the first class to complete this valuable training.
Lt. Robert S. Ashburn, Traffic Homicide Coordinator, and other THI training experts, taught the course that equips FHP members with the knowledge and skills to conduct thorough and accurate death investigations during the course of their duties. According to Lt. Ashburn, troopers who are selected for THI assignments go beyond the normal scope of their duties, ensuring the demands of thorough investigations, meticulous reports, and all follow-ups are carried out with true professionalism. Family members losing loved ones during fatal crashes rely heavily on our THI troopers to answer all questions associated with such a death. In turn, THI’s strive to meet the expectations of those who may be grieving the loss of a loved one who has been tragically killed in a traffic crash. Accurate documentation is critical because the facts collected by THI staff and put in the reports reflect the last chapter in a person’s life.
