K-9 Tanner leads troopers to
suspect following a traffic stop.
Florida Highway Patrol Troopers Bobby Duncan, Keith Slanker, and K-9 Tanner (Troop B) recently assisted the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) in capturing a felon who was wanted in New Jersey.
Following a recent traffic stop on I-75 by CCSO deputies, two suspects were placed in the back of a patrol car after they gave conflicting stories when questioned by officers. While deputies searched their vehicle, the men kicked out a window of the patrol car and fled on foot.
Deputies requested assistance from the Florida Highway Patrol and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission in apprehending the fleeing suspects. Soon, all three agencies, along with K-9 units, began tracking the two suspects. FHP's K-9 Tanner tracked one of the suspects to a mobile home, allowing Troopers Bobby Duncan and Keith Slanker to locate the suspect who was hiding underneath the mobile home. The other suspect was caught by authorities a few hours later near a local rest area. One of the two suspects was a convicted felon who was wanted in New Jersey on multiple criminal charges, including attempted murder. According to reports, the two suspects were wanted for questioning in a number of Alabama burglaries, as well. Great job FHP!
