A training-needs analysis conducted in Troop G indicated that troopers desired training that was more relevant to their daily duties. In response, the troop created a specialized refresher-training day geared to help the road trooper and fill the training void, going above and beyond what the department and CJST requires. The plan is to offer training sessions in 7-hour blocks, which all sworn personnel within the troop will attend by the end of the year. Several training courses will be offered by outside instructors, including the following: I.C.A.R.E. (Alcohol Beverage & Tobacco), Child Abduction Response Team {Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE)}, Northeast Florida Investigative Support Center (FDLE), and Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Administrative Hearings (Division of Drivers Licenses). In addition, agency personnel will provide instruction in-house on the following: DUI refresher course, Drug Impaired Drivers, Public Relations, Child Restraint/Seatbelts, Speed Enforcement, Crash Reporting, and Legal Update. The varied short segments of training are ideal for experienced personnel and serve to ensure members continue to serve as leaders in effectiveness.
