On October 6, 2006, Major David Brierton was promoted to Lt. Colonel, Deputy Director of the South and East Regions, a command including Troops D, F, G, L, and K.

Lt. Colonel Brierton is a 23-year veteran of the Florida Highway Patrol. He served 5 years in the U.S. Army Military Police and received an honorable discharge. He is also a graduate of the Southern Police Institute Command Officer Development Course.
Lt. Colonel Brierton joined the FHP on November 23, 1983, received his initial training at the FHP Academy, and was initially assigned as a trooper in Miami. He has spent most of his career in various positions in Broward or Dade Counties. He was also stationed in Bradenton in the position of Public Information Officer, and later assigned to the Investigation Section as the Southern Regional Commander in May 2001. He was promoted to Chief Investigator two years later.
Over his many years in law enforcement, Lt. Colonel Brierton has received numerous commendations regarding his leadership and his professionalism. Past awards have been for his diligent work during the Value Jet crash and the protection of past U.S. Presidents and Vice Presidents during visits to South Florida.
Lt. Colonel Brierton is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Florida Sheriffs Association, the Florida Police Chiefs Association and the Florida Anti-Car Theft Committee. His wife, Deborah, is a Duty Officer Supervisor at the Tallahassee Regional Communications Center.
