2006 Hazardous Awareness Week was recently recognized at South West Elementary School in Lakeland, FL. On hand were members of the National Weather Service, United States Army, Lakeland Fire/Rescue, Polk County Emergency Medical Services, and the Florida Highway Patrol.
Each agency spoke to hundreds of children about the dangers associated with weather disasters and the different roles that we all play in responding to those in need who have been adversely impacted by natural disasters. The highlight of the day was when local celebrities read weather related adventures to students.

Tampa District Corporal Janice Drake and Troop C Public Affairs Officer Trooper Larry Coggins spoke to the children about the FHP's role in Florida law enforcement, gave tours of FHP patrol vehicles, and stressed the importance of getting a good education in school.
