Colonel Chris Knight recently attended a news conference at the Naval Air Base in Jacksonville to announce a new initiative called the Southeast Law Enforcement Alliance Project (SELEAP). Law enforcement agencies are enhancing their efforts against crime and terrorism by sharing critical information maintained in their records management systems with the Law Enforcement Information Exchange (LINX), an initiative of the U.S. Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS).

LINX enables near real-time sharing of local, state and federal law enforcement data. A single query from participating jurisdictions can generate law enforcement data from multiple jurisdictions. Police officers, detectives, special agents, and analysts can access and analyze shared structured and unstructured data for tactical and strategic initiatives utilizing the analytical features of the LINX technology. The power of this initiative is in the user’s ability to query law enforcement data from a number of jurisdictions to generate leads in a timely and efficient manner. The impact is in the potential to identify and disrupt criminal activity and potential acts of terrorism. Twenty-nine law enforcement agencies in northeast Florida and southeast Georgia are participating in this project.
