Trooper Conya Bassett demonstrates roll-over
simulator for Youth Leadership in Palm Beach.
Troop L's Occupant Protection Specialist Trooper Conya Bassett recently addressed a group of Youth Leadership members from several local Palm Beach County high schools during a community Public Safety Day. At the event, Trooper Bassett provided safety information about good defensive driving on Florida roadways, especially during the holidays, and encouraged students to use good driving skills. Using one of the FHP rollover simulators, Trooper Bassett demonstrated the importance of wearing a seat belt. Also, a vehicle extrication was performed while Trooper Bassett explained that driver distraction is a leading cause of vehicle crashes among young drivers. Trooper Bassett works very closely with her local Safe Kids chapter to provide area teens and young drivers with traffic safety tips, and serves as an invaluable resource for the counties in her troop. In addition, as a Nationally Certified Child Passenger Safety technician, Trooper Bassett provides parents and caregivers with information on the proper installation and use of child restraints and makes child safety seats available for needy families.
