Captain Carlos Vazquez autographs the MADD tour van.
This year marks the 21st anniversary of the national drinking age of 21, and FHP was there to celebrate this milestone! In recognition of this important event, the Chrysler Corporation donated 21 minivans to Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). The 21 vans have been caravanning throughout the nation, each traveling over 6,100 miles stopping at 21 cities along the way. The message is a simple one, "Stay Smart, Safe, & Sober"!
Stop number 16 was in Tampa and was the largest event so far with over 2,000 students at Chamberlain High School. The 21 vans were escorted by law enforcement agencies in the Tampa Bay area, lead by Sergeant Dennis Hobbs and Troopers Ramone Gregory and Jim Goethe from the Tampa district's motor squad. After a brief presentation by local dignitaries, the students and troopers were asked to autograph the tour vans, showing FHP's support for the nationwide drinking age and the commitment from all of us to keep our roadways safe. Happy Birthday 21!
