Lt. Mike Burroughs chats with
a young visitor to the FHP Display.
FHP Troop B recently participated in a Children's Safety Expo in Gainesville, Florida. Children and parents flocked to the exciting "Kid’s Safety Expo" held at the O'Connell Center on the University of Florida Campus. They came to see and learn about safety and to win prizes, hear good music, and eat.
Lt. Burroughs uses Fatal Vision Goggles to
display the effects of Impaired Driving to Tracy Durden.”
Approximately 4,500 children attended the safety event. The FHP Rollover Simulator demonstrated the dangers of riding in a vehicle without a seat belt. Parents lined up to let their children experience throwing a basketball into a miniature basketball goal while wearing a pair of "DUI Fatal Vision" goggles. The experience taught them about the dangers of consuming alcohol or drugs.
Joshua Eadie loved being in the driver's seat of the FHP Camaro.
When it was time to go, his parents had a difficult time
getting him out of the driver’s seat.
Also on display was the FHP's Chevrolet Camaro and the children were given an opportunity to sit inside and turn on the blue lights. That seemed to be the highlight of the event for them and their parents seized the opportunity to photograph them in the driver's seat. They also enjoyed the FHP coloring books and lollipops they received at the event. Who knew an education in safety could be fun!
