Recently, President George W. Bush visited Pensacola for the third time in the past six months. President Bush was here in September to visit disaster areas following Hurricane Ivan. He also made a visit during his re-election campaign. This time, President Bush came to discuss proposed changes to the current social security system. The President arrived at NAS Pensacola on Air Force One, accompanied by Congressman Jeff Miller of Chumuckla. Joining the President were his mother, Barbara, and Governor Jeb Bush, who also flew into NAS Pensacola for the event. From NAS, the President traveled to the campus of Pensacola Junior College to speak to the public.

Once again, the Florida Highway Patrol helped provide security for the Presidential Motorcade as it traveled on its route through Pensacola. FHP manned posts along Interstate 10, closing major intersections to ensure the President made it safely to and from his destination. Lieutenant Roley Kiker was responsible for coordinating FHP's efforts with the Secret Service and other local agencies during the President's visit. Sgt. Terry McCormick rode in the Motorcade to coordinate the closing of the route. Fifteen local supervisors and troopers participated in the successful detail -- a job well done!
