Colonel Chris Knight and the FHP Executive Staff officially welcomed representatives from the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation to General Headquarters. Major Alan Morrow from the Alachua County Sheriff's Office and Lieutenant David Thompson from the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office are part of a team of professional assessors who will be conducting an on-site reaccredidation review of FHP's policies, procedures and practices to ensure that the agency is in compliance with the standards set forth by the Commission. The Patrol was originally granted accreditation by the Commission three years ago.
On December 4, 2004, the FHP, a dually accredited agency, was reaccredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA). The Accreditation Award was presented to Colonel Knight at the Commission's conference in Austin, Texas. In its official award letter, the Commission stated that FHP, "had met the requirements of a highly regarded and broadly recognized body of law enforcement standards." This marks the Florida Highway Patrol's third award, having been originally accredited in November of 1996.
