State Representative and FHPA Lt. Colonel Coley
State Representative and
FHPA Lt. Colonel
David Coley

We sincerely regret the recent passing of State Representative David Coley, who was a member of the FHP Auxiliary for nearly 19 years, holding the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Representative Coley died of liver cancer on Friday, March 25, 2005, at Tallahassee Memorial Regional Hospital.

Representative Coley, a graduate of Murray State University, began his career as a Legislative Assistant to Congressman Bill Grant. He moved on to become the Chief Legislative Assistant to Representative Allan Bense (Florida's current Speaker of the House), until he was elected to the Florida House of Representatives, District 7, this past November.

David served as an invaluable member of the FHPA since November 17, 1986. Through his efforts, the Florida Legislature has provided the FHPA an annual operating budget for uniforms, equipment and training.

Representative Coley will lie in state from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM today in the House of Representatives at the Capitol. At 2:00 PM, a memorial service will be held at the House. Funeral services will be conducted at Chipola Community College in Marianna at 10:00 (CST) on Wednesday morning, March 30th.

David is survived by his wife, Marti, and their three children: Kristin, Vance, and Hunter. Please keep them in your thoughts.
