Trooper Hector Colon
What started out as a routine traffic stop for unlawful speed in Sumter County turned into an impressive arrest for the Florida Highway Patrol. Trooper Hector Colon was patrolling on SR 44 in Sumter County Saturday, when he stopped a 1992 Toyota sedan for unlawful speed. A routine computer check revealed that the vehicle was stolen from a Hernando County resident and that the driver was wanted in Citrus County in connection with an armed robbery of a retail establishment.
Trooper Colon recovered the stolen vehicle for the owner and arrested the suspect for auto theft, driving on a suspended drivers license, and for the Citrus County warrant. He was booked into the Sumter County jail without incident and is awaiting extradition back to Citrus County.
