The 8th Annual Tour de Force Police Charity Bicycle Ride began this year on December 6, 2004, in North Miami Beach and concluded in Daytona Beach on December 10th. The Tour is a five-day ride in which riders average approximately 50 miles each day, passing through 42 separate law enforcement jurisdictions.

The Tour de Force is a non-profit organization event that began in 1997 with a race to raise money on behalf of Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Robert Smith who was killed in the line of duty by a drunk driver. This year's Tour de Force will once again benefit the families of fallen Florida Law Enforcement Officers who died in the line of duty during 2004. The popular race has grown in size each year and has raised a total of over $60,000 for the charity.

The Tour is a fully supported ride with police escorts provided by the Florida Highway Patrol and dozens of sheriff's offices and police departments all along the race's route. As in years past, Lieutenants Bruce Doras and Tony Bartolome were instrumental in coordinating the event as well as participating in the ride. Troopers from Troops E, L and D assisted with this year's ride along the East Coast. As the ride passed through Palm Beach County, Troop L Commander, Major Miguel Guzman, expressed gratitude and praise to all law enforcement agencies involved in the race to support such a wonderful charity.
