Corporal Powel, Captain Johnson- Ft. Myers District Commander Malstrom- Mel's General Manager, Sergeant Hinton, Sergeant Taylor, and Lieutenant Henry.
L to R: Corporal Linda Powel, Captain Eddie Johnson- Ft. Myers District Commander,
Bill Malstrom- Mel's General Manager, Sergeant Dan Hinton,
Sergeant Dan Taylor, and Lieutenant Paul Henry.

Several hours prior to Hurricane Charley making landfall on August 13th, members of the Florida Highway Patrol's Troop F-Ft. Myers District, were able to obtain a sit-down meal at Mel's Diner in Ft. Myers. The diner had closed to the public in order to prepare for the coming storm. However, the staff and management of Mel's Diner went out of their way to accommodate our troopers not only that day but also in the days following the hurricane by providing box meals to troopers on traffic posts even though the restaurant had lost power and was unable to operate normally. It was a stressful time for all, but the support of the employees and management of Mel's Diner made it a little better. Mr. Bill Malstrom, General Manager of Mel's Diner, is shown in the above photo receiving a plaque of appreciation from members of the Ft. Myers District.
