Some members of the Troop B Unit of the Florida Highway Patrol Auxiliary, a Trooper from the Lake City district, and the wife of Lt. Mike Burroughs, recently became certified "Child Passenger Safety Technicians". They successfully completed a 32-hour Child Passenger Safety(CPS) Course created through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Trooper Derry A. Kraszewski, FHPA Major Steve Byrne, FHPA Trooper Errol Houck, FHPA Captain Kathy Bates, FHPA Trooper Timothy Smith, FHPA Trooper Lawrence Dickey III, FHPA Captain Scott Word, and Geneva Burroughs, wife of FHP Lt. Mike Burroughs, attended the course, which was held at Shands-Lake Shore in Lake City, Florida.

during the Child Safety Seat Checkup Event.

FHP Lieutenant Mike Burroughs, a certified Child Passenger Safety Instructor and Doctor Morya Willis, a Shands Child Passenger Safety Educator, instructed the 32-hour Child Passenger Safety Technician training. Safe Kids of Alachua assisted with the training materials, and Shands at Lake Shore Hospital provided the training facility and the use of their parking lot to conduct the required training. Mindy Underberger with Safe Kids of Alachua provided pizza for the class on the final day of training before conducting their required Child Passenger Safety Checkup event. Wal-Mart and Publix Food Stores provided snacks and drinks for the group. Some of the newly trained technicians put their training to use the following weekend at a Safe Kids sponsored Child Passenger Safety Checkup event at the Toys R' Us store in Gainesville.
