Lt. Colonel Jim Howell.
Chief Jim Howell officially retired on January 31, 2004, after nearly 29
years of dedicated service with the Florida Highway Patrol. A retirement
dinner was held recently in Tallahassee where he was "roasted and toasted"
by his many friends and family members who traveled long distances to wish
him the very best as he moves on to the next phase of his life.
Lt. Colonel Jim Howell receives his retirement credentials
from Retired Colonel Bobby Burkett and
Colonel Chris Knight.
After everyone enjoyed a delicious dinner, Colonel Chris Knight and retired Colonel Bobby Burkett presented Chief Howell with his retirement credentials, officially promoting him to Lieutenant Colonel.

Lieutenant Colonel Jim Howell shared these thoughts with his guests: "I have enjoyed a wonderful career with the Florida Highway Patrol, and made many friends along the way. I just feel that now is the right time for me to move on into a new phase of my life, and to spend a lot more quality time with my wife, Judy, and my children and grandchildren."
Congratulations Lt. Colonel Jim Howell! We all wish you much happiness in your well-deserved retirement from FHP! You will be missed.
