The Institute of Police Technology and Management (IPTM) presented its Awards for State Traffic Officer of the Year on January 15, 2002, at the Florida Police Chief’s Conference in St. Augustine. First Place Winner, Lieutenant Mike Rushing, Public Affairs Officer for Troop F-Bradenton, was honored for his outstanding strategies for reducing traffic fatalities. Second Place Winner, Trooper Dawn Tomlinson, Occupant Protection Specialist for Troop G – Jacksonville, was recognized for her commitment to occupant protection and child passenger safety. Trooper Daniel Caulk of Troop B-Cross City, the Third Place Winner, was recognized for his proactive and aggressive enforcement efforts. The IPTM, in conjunction with the Florida Department of Transportation’s State Safety Office, annually recognizes individuals in Florida law enforcement who make a difference by going above and beyond the call of duty in the area of traffic safety.
