Major Richard Carpenter, Troop B Commander, surveyed a crash scene on Interstate 10 in Columbia County during the recent Labor Day Holiday period. To increase visibility on Florida's roadways, FHP Director, Colonel Chris Knight, asks that all FHP Administrative Staff across the state suspend office operations and work the road, conducting routine patrol functions, during peak holiday periods throughout the year.

In this case, Major Carpenter volunteered to investigate this crash so the regular zone trooper, Trooper Henry Ortiz could patrol his assigned zone. The crash involved the driver of a camper trailer who lost control and overturned on Interstate 10, just six miles north of Lake City. Interstate 10 westbound lanes were reduced to one lane for approximately one-hour while wrecker personnel removed the wreckage. The driver was ejected because he was not wearing his seat belt. Thankfully, the driver survived with only minor injuries.
