Trooper Carrick subsequently determined that the driver license was a counterfeit. Further investigation and a canine search revealed that the suspect had another counterfeit driver’s license, two counterfeit credit cards, drug paraphernalia, a small amount of cocaine residue, and a small amount of marijuana. It was also determined that the SUV was a rental vehicle, which had not been returned in accordance with the rental agreement.
Trooper Jefferson-Shaw placed the suspect under arrest and transported the individual to the FHP station for further investigation and processing. The suspect was later taken to the Miami-Dade Police Department Identification Section before being processed at the Miami-Dade County Jail. The SUV was returned to the rental company.
The professionalism and decisiveness displayed by Trooper Jefferson-Shaw, along with follow-up investigation by Trooper Carrick, resulted in the identification and arrest of an offender who apparently had victimized several individuals and companies. Both trooper’s attention to detail and initiative serves as an example of good police work!
