Captain John Roberts addressing Broward County Fire Chiefs

Captain John Roberts, District Commander for Troop L-Davie, recently addressed Broward County Fire Chiefs from the cities of Davie, Dania Beach, Ft. Lauderdale, Pompano Beach and Broward County’s Fire/Rescue Department on the implementation of Florida’s new "Open Roads Policy." Local South Florida news media representatives and Florida Department of Transportation personnel are also pictured.

The goal of the Florida Highway Patrol and the Florida Department of Transportation is to clear traffic crash scenes and reopen roads within 90 minutes. The new policy mandates that roads will not be closed or restricted any longer than is absolutely necessary and that vehicles and debris will be removed as quickly as possible.

Florida and Washington are the only states in the country that have written a policy stating that clearing the roads after a traffic crash is a priority.
