Trooper DeWeese
Trooper Tony DeWeese

On January 30, 2003, Trooper Tony DeWeese, Troop G-Ocala, stopped the driver of a vehicle on Interstate 75 at the 355-mile marker, for speeding. DeWeese discovered that the driver did not have a driver’s license with him, but did provide the trooper a name and date of birth upon request. When Trooper DeWeese ran a computer check on the name, he found the Florida driver license was valid, but there was an active arrest warrant on the individual.

Trooper DeWeese was only able to verify the driver’s identity when he ran the information through "D.A.V.I.D." (Driver And Vehicle Information Database) on his Mobile Data Terminal (MDT) installed in his patrol car. The MDT proved to be a valuable tool in allowing Trooper DeWeese to quickly retrieve the information he needed in order to obtain a positive identification of a felon wanted for two counts of Accessory-After-the-Fact to a First Degree Murder. The MDT gave this trooper the edge he needed to do his job!

The Florida Highway Patrol is constantly reviewing new ways to utilize the mobile data terminals to improve troopers’ efficiency and effectiveness throughout the state.
