Delray Beach P.D. Sergeant Jeff Messer and Trooper Kurt Hardley
A few months ago, Trooper Kurt Hardley, Troop K-West Palm Beach, received an award from the Palm Beach County Crime Prevention Officer’s Association for his life-saving actions on June 25, 2002. Trooper Hardley received a Law Enforcement plaque for preventing a citizen from committing suicide on the Florida Turnpike.
While working a Hireback detail at the Lake Worth Service Plaza, Trooper Hardley responded to a call of a possible suicide attempt on a Turnpike overpass. After observing a man attempting to jump from the overpass, Trooper Hardley scaled the median, ran through rush hour traffic, moved behind the man, and pulled him from the wall to the ground. He then calmed the subject, and took him into protective custody. The subject was released to a mental health facility under the Baker Act.
For Trooper Kurt Hardley’s quick actions, he was recognized and honored by the local law enforcement community.
