The Florida Legislature is in full swing, and recently Colonel Chris Knight had the opportunity to show his support for primary seat belt legislation, sponsored by Representative Irving Slosberg, District 89, Boca Raton, and Senator Debbie Wasserman Schultz, District 32, Pembroke Pines. If a primary seat belt law is passed in Florida, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that approximately 270 lives would be saved each year.
Later in the day, Colonel Knight met with Representative Stan Jordan, District 17, Jacksonville, to discuss the Patrol's capability in responding to a multi-targeted terrorist threat to Florida's metropolitan cities.
Lt. Colonel Larry Austin and Captains Brad Pelton, Joe Schmidt, Jeff Succi, and Sergeant David Sparks, were also in attendance at the meeting. Patrol members were able to provide valuable insight on FHP's current response plan and task force capabilities.
