FHP crash scene display

FHP’s Troop H received a red ribbon (2nd place) for their booth display at the North Florida Fair, which runs from October 31-November 10 in Tallahassee. At one end of the booth, vehicles and dummies depict the scene of a traffic crash in which the driver has smashed his pick-up truck into a utility pole and lies seriously injured and partially ejected out his window because he was not wearing his seat belt at the time. A trooper has just pulled up in his Camaro to call in the crash and request medical assistance for the driver. The empty beer cans scattered at the scene indicate that the driver was probably DUI. The target audience: Teen and young drivers. The key messages at work here: "You Drink...You Drive...You Lose" and "Seat Belts Only Work If You Use Them."

Lt. Collins and Sally Safe-A-Saurus

At the other end of the booth, the focus is on Child Passenger Safety - reminding parents to buckle up their children in child safety seats and booster seats. As a result of the creative talents of Lt. Jimmy Collins, Lt. Ron Langdale, FHP Auxiliary Major Paul Grant, Jerry Causseaux, and Kim Hackler, the FHP display caught the attention of thousands of visitors to the local fair - hopefully, making an impression on people of all ages. On Saturday, a special visitor, Sally Safe-A-Saurus, dropped by to help Lt. Collins tell children to wear their seat belts!

FHP booth

Each year, Troop H designs a booth for the local fair, complete with informational brochures and give-aways with important safety messages for the public. Thanks to the help of Troop H’s Auxiliary members, who volunteer to man the booth and answer questions for the public, the FHP booth is always a big hit!
