Lyla Burchnell, daughter of Sergeant Ryan and Sarah Burchnell, Troop G, Jacksonville, along with their youngest daughter Kate, received a very special surprise gift from Ryan’s squad in Jacksonville on July 22, 2002.
Troopers delivered a Dachshund puppy for Lyla, who has a rare form of cancer (Acute Nonocytic Leukemia/Blood Cancer) and has been undergoing treatment in Jacksonville. The special gift of love came just as the Burchnell’s returned from a trip to Disney World, courtesy of "Dreams Come True". It was decided to name the puppy "Mickey", for obvious reasons! Lyla is also the granddaughter of Captain Victor Dixon, Troop Q, Tallahassee.
Shown in the group photo above are, top row, L to R, Trooper Russ Smith, Trooper Sandy Ezell, Sergeant Burchnell, Lyla, Sarah Burchnell, Kate, and Trooper Michael Mims. Front row, L to R, are Trooper Dylan Bryan, Trooper Kenneth Frost, and Trooper Jim Mason.
Please keep Lyla and her family in your prayers as she battles this terrible disease.
