Executive Director Fred Dickinson has announced the promotion of two veteran Florida Highway Patrol members to Major; Captain Anthony D. “Tony” Allen, and Captain Mark R. Trammell.

Major Allen began his career with the Florida Highway Patrol in Ft. Lauderdale, on August 15, 1982. He was promoted to Sergeant in November 1992 and was transferred to Troop E, Miami. Major Allen was promoted to Lieutenant in January 1995 and began his duties as a Training Officer at the FHP Training Academy. He continued at the academy until his reassignment once again in May 1996 to Troop E, Miami. He was promoted to Captain and assigned to Lt. Governor Frank Brogan in the Office of Dignitary Protection on February 1, 1999. He received his new rank insignia this week at the final meeting of the old-style Cabinet. Major Allen will remain assigned to Lt. Governor Brogan in the Office of Dignitary Protection.

Major Trammell began his career in Rockledge, Brevard County, on December 14, 1973. He was promoted to Corporal in May 1982 and reassigned to Troop E, Miami. He served as Training Officer at the FHP Training Academy from 1984 until his reassignment to Public Information in October of 1988. Since his promotion to Captain in June 1997, Major Trammell has served in the FHP’s Office of Inspections, as FHP Auxiliary Coordinator, Bureau of Investigations, and most recently as Assistant Chief Training Officer at the FHP Training Academy.

Major Trammell is also a Captain in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserves. He was recalled to active duty in September 2001 in support of Operation Noble Eagle just after the terrorist attacks on New York City and the Pentagon. As Chief of the Eighth Coast Guard District Homeland Security Staff in New Orleans, Trammell immediately assumed a crucial role in directing maritime security efforts and setting maritime security policy for a District that includes all or part of 26 states, protects 1,200 miles of coastline and 10,300 miles of inland waterways, and boasts seven of the Nation’s busiest ports.

Earlier this year, President George W. Bush awarded the prestigious Meritorious Service Medal to Trammell for exceptionally meritorious achievement and superior performance of duties for the period of September 2001 through March 2002.

Major Trammell will assume command of Troop H, Tallahassee, where he will be responsible for daily operations of FHP activities in eight counties in the Big Bend area.

Congratulations to Major Allen and Major Trammell on their well-deserved promotions!
