Retired Captain Jimmy Hill

Retired Captain Jimmy Hill, 77, of Bradenton, Florida, and formerly of Palatka, died suddenly on Tuesday, July 16, 2002, at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. Captain Hill was a native of Smackover, Arkansas, and had lived in Bradenton for the past 2 years. He previously lived in East Palatka while serving as Commander of Troop G.

During his 24-year career with the Florida Highway Patrol, Captain Hill served in various capacities. He was first stationed with the FHP in Bradenton in 1952, and was then stationed in Tampa in 1953. He was transferred to Tallahassee in 1958 where he was assigned to General Headquarters. He was also appointed personal assistant and driver to Colonel Neil Kirkman.

He was transferred to Palatka in 1968, where he served as Commander of Troop G. He retired from the Florida Highway Patrol in January 1975, when he was asked to serve as Chief of Police in Palatka, FL. He subsequently retired from the City of Palatka Police Department in January 1990.

He was preceded in death in 1956 by one son, 18 months, James Christopher Hill. Captain Hill is survived by his wife of 51 years, Betty, two daughters, Connie Alexander of Minot, North Dakota, Nickie Struthers of Bradenton, Florida, and one grandson, Kyle Struthers.
