As the Special Olympics "Flame of Hope" approached Florida’s capitol city, Colonel Chris Knight, FHP staff members and the 101st FHP Academy Class joined the run and helped pass the torch to other runners.
Attorney General Bob Butterworth stood in support with Lt. Governor Frank Brogan in the capitol courtyard as law enforcement officers prepared for the passing of the flame.
Two Special Olympic athletes joined Colonel Knight as he prepared to hand-off the torch so it could continue its journey to the final leg in Tampa on April 26th.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of Special Olympics and the 19th year of the Law Enforcement Torch Run. So far, Tallahassee law enforcement officers have raised more than $30,000 dollars, which will assist local Special Olympic athletes travel to and compete in this summer’s games.
