Captain Victor Dixon, FHP Office of Inspections, received an early Christmas present on December 20, 2002. Colonel Chris Knight presented Captain Dixon with an envelope containing $1,032. The gift was from the American Association of State Troopers (AAST), the FHP Command Officers Association (COA), and fellow coworkers at the Florida Highway Patrol and the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.
The gift was collected because earlier in the month, Captain Dixon’s two and a half-year-old granddaughter, Lyla Burchnell, lost her battle with leukemia. Captain Dixon gave the money to his daughter, Sara, and her husband, Sergeant Ryan Burchnell, of Troop G-Jacksonville, on Christmas Day.
The Florida Highway Patrol family, AAST, and COA extend their condolences to Sergeant Burchnell and his family and trust that they know they are in our thoughts and prayers in this New Year.
