Lieutenant John P. Cataldo, Troop L, Lantana, receives the "Count & Countess de Hoernle Humanitarian Award" from John H. Flynn, President/CEO and Trish Lowry, Vice President/ CEO of South Florida Blood Banks, Inc.

On September 11, 2002, the Florida Highway Patrol was recognized by the South Florida Blood Banks, Inc., during a 9-11 ceremony which was held in West Palm Beach, Fl. FHP was recognized for its assistance with escorting 8,000 units of blood across Florida which was needed in Washington D.C. and New York City during the 9-11 emergency of last year.

For several days after the 9-11 attack, all planes were grounded and blood was needed, for victims in Washington and New York. A request for blood was received by the South Florida Blood Bank who in turn contacted the Florida Highway Patrol for an emergency escort. Members of the Patrol escorted the blood through the State of Florida and contacted other State Law Enforcement agencies who in turn continued the escort into Washington D.C. and New York City.

FHP received high praise for its professional and timely response to the needs of other Americans.
