On Wednesday, November 13, 2002, the employees of Fox’s Designer Fashions of Boca Raton, and representatives of the Boca Raton Chamber of Commerce, kicked off their annual Teddy Bears for Troopers drive. Shown in the photo above are, left to right, Trooper Larry Broomfield, Ms. Gloria Stone, Manager of Fox’s Designer Fashions, and Lt. Pat Santangelo.
Lt. Sterling King, Troop C Public Affairs Officer, meets with a few members
of the Knit Wits, along with their collection of dressed up Care Bears.
The Knit Wits, a knitting club in Lakeland, recently donated bunches of “Care Bears” to the Florida Highway Patrol Lakeland district. These plush little teddy bears are all wearing specially knitted clothing.
In Jacksonville, St. Catherine’s Episcopal Church donates stuffed bears to the FHP. This program is called “Bears on Board.” Lt. Bill Leeper accepts another bag of stuffed bears from St. Catherine’s Episcopal Church.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers carry these teddy bears in their patrol cars, and in the event they come in contact with a child who may need to be comforted, the troopers have a means of helping the child calm down.
The Florida Highway Patrol would like to offer a special "Thank You!" to all who have participated in these events. We appreciate the efforts of those who donated these special bears for the children.
