Group shot of FHP and FDLE members

On April 2, 2002, at 6:10 PM, Trooper J.D. Davis stopped a 1999, Chevrolet pickup truck for following too closely and unlawful window tint on I-10 in Gadsden County. The vehicle was occupied by the driver (owner of the vehicle) and his nephew. Trooper Davis became suspicious of the two after obtaining conflicting trip itineraries. Trooper J. Lemery was on scene as a backup. Trooper Davis utilized his drug sniffing K9 "York" to conduct an exterior sniff of the vehicle. Subsequent to a positive K9 alert, a physical inspection of the vehicle was conducted. A thorough investigation of the vehicle revealed 4 steel cylindrical compartments located in all four tires. Due to the unique construction of the compartments, the tires were removed and transported to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Crime Lab (FDLE), where, with the assistance of FDLE, members of the Tallahassee Fire Department, and members of the FHP the tires were removed from the rims and the steel cylindrical containers were cut off. A total of 84 pounds of marijuana was seized. Both subjects were arrested for trafficking, possession, possession with intent to distribute, and false compartments for transporting illegal drugs.
