Captain Burroughs is a 24-year veteran of the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP). Mike joined the FHP in March 1985 and upon completion of the FHP Academy was assigned to Troop D, Kissimmee, Florida. He promoted to Corporal in March 1988 and transferred to Troop D in Cocoa, Florida. He promoted to Sergeant in February 1990 and remained in Cocoa, Florida. Mike promoted to Lieutenant in September 1995 and transferred to Troop B, Lake City, Florida. In March of 2000 he was selected as the Public Affairs Officer for Troop B where he served until his promotion to Captain in April 2008.
The Northern Region is comprised of Troops A, B G and H. The Northern Region is also charged with providing security and law-enforcement services at the Neil Kirkman Building. The Northern Region is comprised of 7 investigators working out of three offices in Pensacola, Tallahassee, and Jacksonville as well as one Staff Assistant and one Crime/Intelligence Analyst located in Tallahassee. Their geographical area of responsibility encompasses Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, Walton, Holmes, Washington, Bay, Jackson, Calhoun, Gadsden, Liberty Franklin, Leon, Wakulla, Jefferson, Madison, Taylor, Hamilton, Columbia, Suwannee, Baker, Bradford, Union, Alachua, Levy, Lafayette, Dixie, Gilchrist, Marion, Putnam, Flagler, Clay, St. Johns, Duval, and Nassau counties.
