The Florida highway Patrol Auxiliary (FHPA) is authorized under Florida Statute Chapter 321 and is an organization of dedicated Florida citizens who provide assistance to the Florida Highway Patrol. This assistance comes in many forms such as providing staffing for drivers license and equipment checkpoints, limited scope patrol to provide assistance and aid to motorists traveling our highways, participation in DUI checkpoints and providing personnel to assist in large scale traffic control situations that require manpower that exceeds local troops available manpower. However, the most important function of the FHPA is riding with troopers during the various shifts. This not only provides assistance but provides additional officer safety that has been very influential in many confrontational situations.
The Troop H Florida Highway Patrol Auxiliary is divided into two FHPA units and consist of approximately 40 members. It is commanded by FHPA Major J. Paul Grant, with a support staff of FHPA Captains Charles F. Deal, Gerald W. Mingledorf, and Stephen E. Pigott. The Auxiliary works thousands of volunteer hours each year providing individual and unit assistance to the troopers and communication personnel in our troop. Their dedication is evidenced by the close personal and working relationship that develops with the trooper on patrol.
