Venice District Commander

The Venice District is located in Venice and includes Sarasota County and Charlotte County. The Venice District is commanded by a Captain. Other staff includes one lieutenant, four sergeants, six traffic homicide investigators (corporals) and twenty troopers (thirteen troopers assigned to Sarasota County and seven troopers assigned to Charlotte County). Last year, the troopers assigned to the Venice District accounted for 22,666 arrests, 9,548 written warnings, 5,571 faulty equipment notices, 707 DUI arrests and 5,529 crash investigations. A total of 22,640 case numbers were assigned by the radio room and a total of 625,589 radio transmissions were logged last year.

Sarasota County: Sarasota County is located along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. It has a population of approximately 306,000 which includes the 51,422 residents of the City of Sarasota,the 22,640 residents of the City of Venice and the City of Northport with a population of 53,000 . It should be noted that the population of Sarasota County increases drastically during the winter months due to part-time winter residents from the northern states. Sarasota County has a total of 160.5 miles of state roads and 968.8 miles of county roads as well as 42. 6 miles of Interstate 75.

Charlotte County: Charlotte County is located south of Sarasota County. It has a population of approximately 122,000 which includes the 12,000 residents of Punta Gorda, the largest city in the county. Charlotte County also has an increase in population during the winter months. It has a total of 100.15 miles of state roads and 851.6 miles of county roads as well as 21.5 miles of Interstate 75.
