Welcome to Troop F. Troop F is comprised on ten diversified counties located in the southwest portion of the state extending south of Tampa along the Gulf of Mexico southward approximately 180 miles to the middle of the Everglades. The beautiful beaches and tropical climate create a haven for tourists from all across the United States as well as the entire world. In recent years, the coastal areas of the troop have been a prime vacation destination for international visitors.
Additionally, winter residents from the northern states have targeted portions of the troop as their winter home away from the bitter colds of the north. The population of many areas within the troop nearly double during the winter months. Troop F extends eastward approximately 100 miles to the central part of the state. The five interior counties within the troop offer a total contrast to the coastal counties. Those counties are made up mostly of citrus, cattle and agricultural communities. However, Highlands County continues to rapidly expand as a retirement and winter residential area. Troop F is home for many tourists attractions and major sporting events including Ringling Brothers Circus, Thomas Edison's home, the international renown 12 hours of Sebring race, the world famous Sanibel Island and the spring training home of several professional baseball teams as well as the beautiful wonders of the Everglades. The city of Naples, located in the southern part of the troop, is the home of more millionaires per capita than any city in the world. Located in Naples, along the beautiful Gulf of Mexico, is one of the world's most celebrated hotels, the Ritz Carlton of Naples.
Troop F has a total population of approximately 1,406,217. However, the winter population for the troop increases by nearly one half million people from October to April. Close to another one half million people are estimated to vacation along the beaches of Southwest Florida every year. There are 185 sworn law enforcement positions assigned to Troop F to patrol the 1,312.7 miles of states roads, the 8,576 miles of county roads and the 179.6 miles of interstate highways. In 2006, troopers in Troop F made 52,477 arrests, 22,991 written warnings and issued 13,541 faulty equipment notices. They also made 917 DUI arrests and investigated 10,136 crashes.
