Motorcycle Squad
The Florida Highway Patrol's Troop D Motorcycle Squad is an eleven member squad consisting of nine troopers and one reserve who are supervised by a sergeant. This group is responsible for patrolling Central Florida's roadways and keeping the citizens of this state, and the millions of tourists who come to experience our areas theme parks and other attractions, safe during their travels. These troopers accomplish this mission by strict enforcement of Florida's traffic laws and through the education of the motoring public.
This team of traffic safety professionals conducts safety talks with various civic organizations and high schools throughout our area. Informing the public of the dangers involved with unlawful speed, the running of red lights, not wearing seat belts and distracted or impaired driving.
Five of the squads' members are certified police motorcycle instructors, with three of those also being certified by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation.
While traffic safety is a huge concern this entire squad is also part of the F.H.P's Disaster Response Team, responding to disasters statewide such as hurricanes and tornados. Duties during disasters include the citizen’s safety, security, property in the damaged areas, along with providing food and water until normal services can be restored. The members of this Motor squad have been proudly serving in this capacity since Hurricane Andrew struck South Florida in 1992 and have even been deployed to other states in incidents such as Hurricane Katrina.
The motor unit is also trained in dignitary protection and along with the Secret Service has escorted numerous dignitaries over the years.
This group's hard work and dedication to serving the citizens of Florida can be summed up best by the three words of the Florida Highway Patrol's motto Courtesy, Service and Protection.
Last year this motor unit reached out to the public 22,815 times in a positive way.
