Trooper Rodriguez
Trooper Edwin Rodriguez

On March 28, 2011, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Trooper Edwin Rodriguez was off-duty at the Starbucks Coffee Shop in Clermont, Fla., when he heard a woman and her husband screaming for help in the parking lot. Rodriguez immediately ran to their calls and discovered their infant son was unresponsive and turning blue. Rodriguez noticed the child was not breathing so he initiated CPR while someone called for Emergency Medical Services. The infant began to respond to Rodriguez’s efforts. When EMS arrived, Rodriguez turned the child over to them. The infant was breathing on his own and was immediately transported to South Lake Hospital.

Rodriguez’s heroic actions and quick thinking saved the life of the child, upholding the finest traditions of the Florida Highway Patrol.
