TROOP D
Message from Major Brown

Welcome to the Florida Highway Patrol Troop D Home Page. I would like to share some information about our agency with a special focus on the FHP Central Florida Operations. The Florida Highway Patrol is divided into ten (10) field troops statewide. Troop D in the largest of the divisions and is comprised of six (6) Central Florida Counties and divided into four (4) districts. Our Troop D Headquarters is located in Orlando 133 South Semoran Boulevard (SR 436). In addition to our state-of-the -art FHP Office, we also house one of the most modern communications facilities. Our communications center is located in a traffic management center along with the Florida Department of Transportation's Intelligent Transportation System.

Our mission is to save lives and prevent injuries on our highways through strict traffic enforcement and education. Last year, 485 people lost their lives in traffic crashes in Central Florida, and thousands were injured. Our task is the guardianship of over 400 miles of interstate and toll roads and 7100 miles of state and secondary highways to make them a safer place for you the motorist to travel.

While our primary task is traffic, we provide other critical law enforcement services as well. I cordially invite you to tour the Troop D Web Site in hope that it will permit you to know us a little better and to reaffirm our goal to provide the best possible service to you in the highest tradition of our 60- year Florida Highway Patrol history.

The Orlando FHP Facility houses the patrol's Child Passenger Safety operation which provides free children's car seats to those on public assistance and who cannot afford this life-saving measure. We also provide training to parents, hospitals, health departments, and doctors in the proper installation and use of children's car seats. For further information, contact Trooper Kim Miller at (407) 737-2300 extension 1008.

Parents are urged to read and understand the instruction manual that accompanies the child seat or to seek assistance from local child passenger experts in the area. State and local law enforcement provide periodic checkpoints to provide assistance.
