Trooper Benito Perez teaches a child seat class in Spanish.
Earlier this month, Florida Highway Patrol troopers Reggie Edwards and Trooper Benito Perez conducted a child safety seat class for parents and caregivers in both English and Spanish at the Polk County Health Department. Many concerned parents were in attendance and learned the value of buckling up themselves and their little ones.

low income parents who cannot afford them for their children.
Trooper Reggie Edwards, a veteran Occupant Protection Specialist with the Florida Highway Patrol, demonstrated the need for proper child seat inspection while Trooper Benito Perez, a newly certified Child Passenger Safety Technician, translated important information into Spanish. Both troopers spoke of the importance of properly using seatbelts and child restraints when traveling Florida’s roadways. Trooper Perez proved invaluable, offering non English speaking parents the guidelines en Espanol.
FHP is on the move with its Child Passenger Safety Program!
The classes offered by the Florida Highway Patrol in English and Spanish show our agency’s continued commitment to ensuring that all children ride safely on Florida’s roadways. Since national statistics still show that 80% of all child safety seats are improperly installed, it continues to be critical that law enforcement help educate the public on the proper installation and use of child restraint devices.
FHP recognizes the importance of this issue, making troopers and other FHP personnel available to instruct parents on the proper installation and use of child safety seats and booster seats. Currently, every FHP Troop across our state sets up regular child safety seat checks and classes to assist the public in identifying unsafe and improperly installed child safety seats as well as offering resource materials with the most current information available on a child passenger safety and occupant protection.
