Electronic Temporary Registration System (ETR)

The department is authorized to administer an electronic system for motor vehicle dealers to issue temporary license plates. This allows law enforcement to verify the validity of a temporary license plate via the Florida Real Time Vehicle Information System (FRVIS).

The license plate stock for electronic temporary registration is available via several providers through approved manufacturers. Regardless of the manufacturer used, the temporary license plate must conform to specifications developed by the department. This will provide a uniform look to the temporary license plate, which is necessary for law enforcement purposes.
