The Initial Registration Fee (IR) is required the first time a vehicle is registered in class 001, 031, or 042 (if the vehicle body is not PC). These classes will be referred to as the IR classes. When looking at history records in OLD FRVIS or Legacy Tag History, the Initial fee would have been charged in classes 1, 2, 3, 11, 12, 13, 17, 18, 19, 21, 22, 23, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 31, 32, 32, 33, 63, 64, 67, and 68.
The Initial Exempt reason of Prior Registration should be used only in the following two situations:
For both of the above scenarios, enter the license plate in the "Prior Registration LP" field from the most recent history record where the IR fee was paid/exempted or in an IR class.
You will need to do some research to determine the correct plate to enter in the Prior Registration Plate field. The only license plates that qualify for use in this field are:
Several new history inquiries as well as some already existing ones are available as tools to perform the research necessary to determine whether the IR fee should be exempted and to determine the license plate to use in the Prior Registration Plate field.
